Enrique ATALAYA (1851-1913)
is a Spanish painter, born in Murcia and died in Paris. He will make part of his career in France.
Very early on attracted by genre scenes, he will make a specialty of it as well as landscapes.

He settled in Madrid in 1869, where he continued his studies at the School of Fine Arts.
He regularly attended the Prado Museum during his studies and trained in copying classical works.

Very passionate about the technique, he presented to the Academy, in 1877, a new painting process without oil or varnish.

It was in 1880 that he moved to Paris. He participated in the Universal Exhibitions of 1889 and 1900.
A very large part of the painter's work is made up of subjects of very small size. (9 x 7 cm going to 20 x 25 cm).

He specializes in particular in the representations of the work of Cervantes: Don Quixote.
But also in small fresh oils with a tender touch, elegant in the garden or from a boat by a river.
