These are generally pièces of silverware in the style of Louis XV or later Art Nouveau designed by Philippe Wolfers for which Isidore De Rudder created the mischievous little toddlers who, with a smile on their lips, climb the coffee pots, table settings and other sugar bowls of his silversmith friend. The vast majority of the pieces date from the end of the nineteenth century.
The objects are usually made from very high quality cast silver and were therefore rather expensive.
Their high price did not prevent their success from being international.
Many of the pieces known on the market were in fact orders from customers outside Belgium.
In fact, the pieces presented here bear the hallmarks of the Wolfers firm and those of the famous jeweler Goldschmidt in Cologne, who was an important client of the Wolfers house for decades.
Several Belgian and international museums own and exhibit pieces from this "Les Maraudeurs " series. DIVA Antwerp, Designmuseum Ghent, ....)
