Portrait Of Queen Anne (1665-1714), 17th Century by Edmund LILLY (1650-1716) - huge study Large 17th century old master portrait of Queen Ann, oil on canvas by Edmund Tilly. Excellent full-scale three-quarter-length portrait of Ann as Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland wearing the Order of the Garter in a blue robe, cloak and ermine, holding a scepter. Excellent example of Lilly who has been commissioned to paint the Ann on several occasions. Presented in a good wooden frame. Excellent quality and condition for its age. Provenance: sale of the Earl of Guildford, 1980; probably London, Christies, July 12, 1990, lot 48 Literature: Inventory of Waldershare Park, Dover, Kent, No. 108 (home of the Earls of Guildford), described as signed and dated 1703 (base of column on left) * A version of Lilly's popular depiction of the Queen (a 1702, full-length version is at Stowe; and a 1703 version is in the Duke of Marlborough's collection at Blenheim) Dimensions: 150cm x 135cm framed approx
