Long breech-loading gun, round barrel stamped with the initials“ V ”,“ P ”and "R", accompanied by an eagle, wooden buttplate, two rings marked "U", carcass marked "US Springfield" accompanied by the eagle, symbol of the United States. Chamber marked "US Model 1876", wooden butt stamped with control punch in a cartridge and the date 1883.
This rifle, designated by Erskine S. Allin from the Springfield model 1861 rifle, is characterized by a new bolt mounted at the rear of the barrel. It is its similarity to a hinged trap door that gives it the nickname "trap door".
Complete with its original bayonet, shovel and scabbard.
Good general state of conservation.
