Pierre - Jules Mène (1810-1879)
One of the pioneers of animal sculpture , Pierre-Jules Mêne begins to work with his father , a metal turner .
Very early on attracted by sculpture , he spent a very long time in the Jardin des Plantes making sketches .
It was not until 1938 that he made his debut at the Salon .
Specializing in small bronzes , Pierre-Jules Mêne sets up his own foundry and takes care of the casting and chasing himself .
Unanimously recognized for the perfection of his productions , he is one of the leaders of the French Animal School .
