"Gustave Vidal, 1895-1966 - Corsica, Coti-chiavari Golfe d'Ajaccio."
Oil on panel by Gustave Vidal signed lower right and titled and numbered on the back; Seaside Coti Corsica. Gustave Vidal lived at the bottom of the village, with the village above him; the house is in the middle of the scrubland near the road with an exceptional view of the gulf. Coti-Chiavari is a commune of medium mountains of the coast at the end of the southern bank of the gulf of Ajaccio in the peninsula of Capu di Muru of the canton of Santa-Maria-Siché. Born in 1895 in Avignon, Gustave VIDAL is a landscape and marine painter. He graduated from the Avignon School of Fine Arts where he received numerous awards. He participated in the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, where he was a member of the society. He painted landscapes of Provence, Camargue and Corsica. As evidenced by this oil painting, he is today undoubtedly one of the best great Provençal landscape painters of the early 20th century. An excellent colorist, he models the paste with a knife like no one before; like a mason he builds his canvases in three dimensions. Compositions always of a correctness of an admirable 'balance. Oil in superb condition perfectly restored, cleaning and varnishing executed in the rules of art.
