Object description :

"Creil Et Montereau Bracquemond-rousseau Service Of 27 Pieces 19th Time"
Very rare earthenware set by Creil and Montereau distributed by the Toy Léveillé house at 10 rue de la Paix in Paris. Stamp on the back. The “Rousseau” service was born from the collaboration between the engraver Félix Bracquemond and the merchant editor Eugène Rousseau. It was made in 1866 by the factory of Creil and Montereau. For this “Rousseau” service, Bracquemond etched a large number of motifs of plants, birds and animals, grouped into twenty- eight boards. These plates were then printed and transferred to paper. The different patterns were then cut and applied directly to the earthenware. The decoration was finally put in color by the workers of the factory, according to the indications provided by Bracquemond. The shape of the plate, attributed to the merchant Eugène Rousseau, is more traditional and is inspired by Rococo models, imitated from 18th century porcelain. The edges present a molded ornamentation and a blue combed decoration. The originality of this service, which associates forms from the 18th century with a decoration of Japanese influence, was noticed very early on. In his report on the London International Exhibition in 1871, Mallarmé paid homage to "this admirable and unique service, decorated by Bracquemond with Japanese motifs borrowed from the farmyard and fishing tanks, the most beautiful recent crockery. that it be given to me to know ”. All different patterns on each piece Decorations of flowers, insects, ducks, chickens, birds, butterflies, turkeys, chicks, pheasants .... Very shimmering colors Intense blue combed edges Very good general condition consisting of: 16 flat plates (d: 24.5 cm) 8 dessert plates (d: 22.5 cm) 3 soup plates for a total of 27 pieces
