Superb and rare pair of gilded bronze bust of a woman by Albert-Ernest Carrier Belleuse (1824-1887) French sculptor who was one of the most prolific artists of the century and enjoyed the greatest success under the Second Empire, benefiting from the support staff of Napoleon III, very influenced by the Italian renaissance and the XVIIIth French that he helped to bring up to date. Carrier-Belleuse has greatly contributed to the improvement of the decorative and industrial arts. A large number of artists, including Auguste Rodin, worked in his studio from which came out a prodigious quantity of decorative statuettes. Carrier-Belleuse was, towards the end of his life, director of art work at the Sèvre factory. His visit was marked by the renewal of the collections and the modernization of the style. This pair of statue is presented on a fluted cherry red marble base resting on small gilded and chiseled bronze feet. High quality work in excellent condition and observation.
