This splendid panel is part of the artistic movement that developed in France in the sixteenth century linked to the patronage of François I, The King of France, prodigious patron of the arts, ordered in 1528 the repair and decoration work of his residence, the Chateau de Fontainebleau, where he surrounded himself with some of the most important Italian artists, such as Rosso Fiorentino, Primaticcio, Nicolò dell'Abate, Bienvenue à Cellini and Luca Penni. It is with the latter that one can recognize interesting stylistic affinities, in particular for the well-defined preparatory drawing under the pictorial layer and for its profane nudity, which manifests itself on several occasions in his works.
The work is presented in a discreet state of conservation, with restorations scattered over the body of Venus and Cupid.
