"Sauceboat Having Belonged To Sarah Bernhardt, Odiot 1890-1900, Sterling Silver"
Here is an extremely rare historical memorabilium from the exuberant interior of the most famous actress of the nineteenth century. This sumptuous Louis XVI style gravy boat is made in the purest neoclassical style by the Odiot workshop at the end of the nineteenth century and was probably part of a large set of silver plates and dishes in service in the mansion of this great actress. On either side of the gravy boat are on the edge of the frame his initials in solid gold enhanced by a banner on which is written his motto "Quand Even." which referred to his daring and contempt for convention. The initials are crowned with a Greek theatrical mask, a sword and a hobbyhorse. The gravy boat still has its sterling silver lining. Its weight is 1145 grams.
