Object description :

"Tapestry Bruxelles "
Beautiful panel of tapestry of the workshops of Brussels beginning XVIII century. The cherubs and the fauns

Tapestry woven very finely in wool and silk at the time of Louis XV in Brussels This tapestry panel with exceptionally well preserved colors presents a scene on the pleasures of drunkenness. Scene with a child in a tree in a famous attitude of the Fountain of the Manneken-Pis in Brussels and below his friends fauns proposing an ecstatic dance. These companions, always laughing and in a happy mood, dancing and singing, are next to fauns with a man's bust, pointed ears and a lower body that is that of a goat. The faun had created a new musical instrument that he named syrinx in memory of the nymph, this instrument is now better known under the name of panpipes. Symbolically, the fauns in this tapestry represent the enlarged reflection of the inclinations and excesses of the human race.
