Frame in gilded wood (normal wear, double mat with gouache fillets.
Frame dimensions: 40 x 35 cm. Drawing dimensions: 25 x 18 cm. Signed.
The colors are very fresh, tiny foxing. The paper is not stuck.
Eugène Devéria born in Paris on April 22, 1805 and died in Pau on February 3, 1865 is a romantic French painter.
Devéria entered the Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied under the direction of Girodet-Trioson and Guillaume Guillon Lethière.
Eugène Devéria's first mailings to the Salon date from 1824, they were hardly noticed there. In 1827, on the other hand, his monumental painting of The Birth of Henri IV enjoyed a triumph.
Eugène Devéria was at that time one of the of the finest hopes of nascent romanticism.
For the bicentenary of his birth, in 2005, the museums of Pau devoted various events to him.
