A Neapolitan white marble bust of Psyche of Capua, after the original sculpture dating from the first century B.C. found badly mutilated in the amphitheater of Capua in the 18th century. The sculpture although commonly known as Psyche of Capoua more likely depicts Aphrodite. Earlier believed to be a work by Praxiteles, it is rather a Roman copy after a work by Scopas.
The bust rests on a gray marble pedestal.
Late 18th century.
Good condition (some small chips and cracks).
