"Mountain Landscape With Ruins - Swiss School XVIIIth Century"
Landscape painting in Switzerland in the eighteenth century received only a rather weak reaction from this naturalist movement inspired by the ideas of the time. If, in the second half of the 18th century, professional landscapers became more numerous in Switzerland or if they were more fruitful than in the past, the works they produced expressed concern for reality. The grace or the majesty of their renewed compositions are rather part of an academic tradition. In our painting, the influence of French and English painting is remarkable with these Gothic ruins in a mountain valley, the influence of naturalism is present and original.
