Object description :

"Pierre Fleury (1900-1985) "
Very interesting oil / canvas by Pierre Fleury titled on the back of his hand "Malamock by heavy sea, Douarnenez" + numbering, signed lower left. Format without frame 54x65cm. It is indeed a magnificent navy by Pierre Fleury, it therefore represents a Malamock on a rough sea, as usual he works brilliantly the sea, thanks to a very very rich material, many brushstrokes like he had the secret, all in a rich palette of tones of blues, whites, brown grays etc ... The movement is sumptuous, especially that of the Malamock on the crest of a wave, in short a very beautiful painting of a true painter of the sea and sailor of course! The Malamocks were wooden and motor boats from Douarnenez, specialized in fishing for tuna and mackerel (there are sites dedicated to these Breton boats). Born July 6, 1900 in Boulogne-sur-Seine, died in Paris on October 1, 1985. Secondary studies at Lycée Michelet de Vanves. Certificates at the Sorbonne, in General Mathematics, Astronomy and Philosophy. Enrolled as a young man in the role of a Mauritanian from Camaret, then aboard a tuna boat from Douarnenez to know the rough weather in the Bay of Biscay or on a cutter on Ile d'Yeu for coastal trawling. Student of the engraver Bernard Naudin, the painters Paul Signac and Charles Guérin. First exhibition in Paris in 1923. Only official painter of the Ministry of Air (1931). Officer of the Legion of Honor and Officer of Maritime Merit. Elected Corresponding Member of the Académie de Marine in 1966 and titular in 1973. He had various students in his studio rue Mornay, among others Marc Feuillet, Gilles Thibaud. From sailing dinghies to Stationary Meteorological ships (NMS, from his stays in Iroise and the Ile de Sein, he observed and reproduced the sea and the clouds. Canvases painted in oil, gouaches, pastels, pencils, Pierre Fleury excelled also in Landscapes and Portraits. Married in April 1929, he had two daughters and knew his three grandchildren. He therefore painted the Breton coast a lot, but also the Charentaise and Vendéennes coastlines, but he also came to paint in Crozant in the end of the 1920s, as proof of a painting that I sold a few years ago in the surroundings of Crozant.Today there is a Pierre Fleury museum on the island of Aix that I strongly recommend, with exhibitions different every year; the star of the Aix Island SNSM bears the name of Pierre Fleury. A website is even dedicated to him, here is the link: http://pierrefleury.canalblog.com/pages/biographie /24725268.html So painter of the Sea and the Air, the works of Pierre Fle ury are quite sought after by amateurs, not that common, some of them achieve quite good results in sales. This oil is part of 2 works (see my other ad), it is in perfect condition, delivered in its period frame with gray patina. Authentic guarantee
