Pierre Paulus, Heroic Nude (# Nervia Wallonie, Wallon, Belgian, Hainaut, Châtelet, Charleroi)

Pierre Paulus (1881-1959): Belgian painter specializing in subjects from the industrial and mining world. Trained at the Academy of Brussels (Montald), he will obtain a travel grant for Italy. If he had a personal exhibition in 1909, it was two years later that he was noticed by the public at the Salon d'Art Moderne de l'Exposition de Charleroi organized by Jules Destrée, with whom he became a friend.
Our study illustrates the artist's solid anatomical training, with a classic pose, and is part of the artist's many projects highlighting the work of workers in Walloon industry.
Paulus will be a member of the Nervia group (1928). Recognized artist, he will be ennobled in 1951 (baron Pierre Paulus de Châtelet).
