Cerny Karel then Charles Born August 12, 1892 in Prague. Died in 1965 active in France. Czechoslovakian "Maison paysanne à Gouvernes", watercolor and gouache signed lower right, size 19 x 24 cm Painter of history, portraits, landscapes. He arrived in France in 1913 to continue his studies there and enlisted in the army for the duration of the war. In Paris he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants from 1913, at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts in 1922, at the Salon of French Artists between 1930 and 1939 of which he was a member for the competition and at the Salon d'Automne between 1922 and 1932. He painted Danube landscapes, some portraits and was appointed marine painter in 1952. He also painted historical compositions for military ships and famous naval portraits from the past.
