Object description :

"Very Large 18th Cty Glass With Coat Of Arms, Imhoff Switzerland Family"
1st half of the 18th century very large stemmed glass bearing a coat of arms on one of its faces,

"Au dragon mariné" for the IMHOFF Family in Switzerland (please see documentation) / "cut of sand with a marinated in gold lion, and silver in three sand lozenges ".

Généalogie Alsace Lorraine Vosges - CRHF - Centre de Recherches sur l'Histoire des Familles Haut-Rhin Guebwiller - Bases de données>Notices de familles T
The Historical and Biographical Dictionary of Switzerland devotes several pages to this family, widespread in the cantons of Aargau , from Basel, Basel-Country, Bern, Lucerne, Schaffhausen, Unterwald, Uri and Valais.
In the canton of Aargau, the IMHOFFs are reported in Rheinfelden in 1202 and in Zofingue in 1227.

The IMHOFFs of Zofingue bore the following coat of arms: "sable with lion marinated in gold, and silver with three sand diamonds ".
The IMHOFFs are also well represented in the Basel canton where some bearers of the name are mainly devoted to the trade in silks and sheets.

21.5cm height and diam 9cm diameter (neck) / 10cm (foot)

The glas'surface is slightly pink and altered, rough. This suggests a glas composition overloaded with pewter, as could be the productions of the Margeride factory in Auvergne.

The second side is also finely engraved with decorative ornaments.
