"Baga Statue"
Very beautiful and rare statue of MBA BAGA from ancient Guinea Hardwood with very beautiful shiny patina of use height 82cm Widely called "NIMBA" these statues are among the rarest forms yet emblematic of African Art They were a source of inspiration for artists of the early twentieth Picasso had two Matisse also Vlaminck had one which was put on sale at Loudmer in 1987 It is a standing male figure, hands folded under the chin The large head is a work refined The hooked nose, the crested headdress surmounted by a container strewn with holes in order to hang an ornament The cylindrical neck and long the rounded belly and prominent the whole camped on strong legs slightly bent A very beautiful patina of use shiny with traces of wear in places the container on the top (extremely rare on this type of statue) apparently served to receive magical substances This sculpture is compared to that sold at Sotheby's June 12, 2012 having obtained nearly 55,000 euros (see photo) Very nice collector's item and guaranteed decoration effect free shipping worldwide
