Judith and Holofernes, 19th century Circle of William Etty (1787-1849) Huge 19th century English scene of Judith and Holofernes, oil on canvas. Beautiful quality and condition circa 1840 scene of Judith getting ready to behead the sleeping Holofernes. Large-scale neoclassical scene. Indistinctly signed on the back of an old label on the frame. Etty produced a composition similar to a triptych acquired by the Scottish Academy. It is possible that this is a preparatory or preliminary work by Etty or that it was produced by a member close to his entourage. Presented in a good golden frame. Dimensions: 56 "x 46" framed approximately
