This print depicting Matsushima no Tsubone holding a brush between her lips and examining a scroll of paper surrounded by fleur-de-lis.Simple wand frame in waxed wood.

This print comes from a very beautiful series entitled "Mirror of Women of Wisdom and Courage" (Kenyû fujo kagami) published by Takahashi-ya Takakichi and Arita-ya Seiemon in 1844. Each print in this series shows the head and shoulders of a woman who has been a part of history or a legend depicted within a circle surrounded by a different flower on each print. The prints each measure approximately 14 x 10 inches (36 x 25 centimeters), a size known as ôban.
