Oil on canvas representing an important character because he wears the Order of the Holy Spirit on his chest. It could be Jacques Philippe de Choiseul Stainville, an 18th century French soldier born in Lunéville in 1727 and died in Strasbourg in 1789. He is descended from the House. De Choiseul, Noble family from Choiseul dans.la Haute Marne. This illustrious family provided a large number of servants to the Kingdom of France 5 marshals, 1 cardinal, 2 bishops and several statesmen. Jacques Philippe de Choiseul entered the service of France in 1760 and was appointed Lieutenant General of the King's Armies in 1770, he obtained the general government of Lorraine and became Marshal of France in 1783 then he was made Governor General of Alsace in 1788 He built the Porte St Louis in Nancy in memory of the people of Nancy who died for American independence at the battle of Yorktown.
