"Louis Cabié (1853-1939)"
This oil on cardboard mounted on canvas represents an animated view off Saint Georges de Didonne with in the distance a steamboat which goes up the estuary of the Gironde and in the foreground of the anglers in the rocks. Painting signed lower right by Louis Cabié, dated 1902, countersigned on the back and located. Louis Cabié (1853-1939), pupil of Henry Harpignies and Hyppolyte Pradelles, worked alongside Gustave Courbet and Jean Baptiste Corot in the region of Saintes and became a recognized painter of the landscape school of Saintonge, a region where he produced many works.
