Jean-baptiste Van Moer, Romantic Landscape (# Belgian Romanticism Tree)

Jean-Baptiste Van Moer (Brussels, 1819 - 1884), Belgian romantic painter of city views, pupil of François Bossuet at the Academy of Brussels. Author of views from Belgium but also from Italy, Spain and the Middle East. Appreciated for the precision of his views and their atmospheric rendering. Among other things, he received commissions for the Royal Palace of Brussels (views of Venice) and for the Town Hall of Brussels.

Our design is rich in a variety of features and density which make it a very good example of the graphic work of Jean-Baptiste Van Moer and more generally of Belgian romanticism.

Drawing (probably in graphite) on thick paper, 29 x 39 cm, signed lower left.
Pushpin hole on the far left in the middle. Thin band on the weaker left side (probably a trace of an old assembly). Top right, a number 24 is present. These different elements correspond to the practical use that Van Moer gave to his drawings in his artistic practice.
