Ludwig KLIMEK (1912-1992); born in Poland; French: "Bouquet of flowers in a vase", oil on canvas signed lower right, size: 73 x 54 cm Ludwik Klimek, in German Ludwig Klimek or in French Ludovic Klimek, born August 23, 1912 in Skoczów in Austria-Hungary (now in Poland), and died December 7, 1992 in Antibes in the Alpes-Maritimes1, is a French painter of Polish origin. Biography 1912-1939: Eastern Europe Ludwik Klimek was born on August 23, 1912 in Skoczow in Austria-Hungary (now Poland) 2. The large family lives with twelve children in Skoczów and the father is a trader and runs a store. With the founding of the Second Polish Republic in November 1918, the Skoczów region became an integral part of Polish territory. He made his first exhibition at the age of eleven in his hometown2. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown. He graduated from Cieszyn. Ludwik Klimek studied art and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow3. 1939-2006: France He then went to Paris with scholarships in the spring of 19394. He often visited the Louvre and admired the original works of Titian, Francisco de Goya, Nicolas Poussin and Pierre Paul Rubens. He remained in Paris after the invasion of Poland in September 1939. He worked in André Lhote's studio and at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. His friend Édouard Vuillard made him obtain a foreign affairs grant. In May 1939, he left for Aix-en-Provence. Upon liberation, he returned to Paris, staying there for two years5. Then return to the south of France, to the Côte d´Azur. He lived in Nice, then especially in Menton where he remained twenty years until 1947. He then settled in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, then in Juan-les-Pins. While painting in Vallauris from 1951 to 1952, he met Pablo Picasso, who lived there from 1948 to 1955. He also met Marc Chagall and was his friend for years. With Henri Matisse, who lives in Vence, he founded the Biennale Internationale d'Art de Menton6 in 1951 and exhibited his works there until 1972. In 1951 and 1953, he received the second prize for his paintings. Ludwik Klimek created around 3,000 works of art - mostly as an oil painting on canvas, but less as a watercolor, pastel paint, and gouache. Due to his son's long illness, he sells a large part of his works of art. In his works of art, where he often bathes female figures, naiads, nixes, heliads, mermaids appear as spiritual borrowings from myths and legends, as well as landscapes and still lifes. He died on December 7, 19922 in Nice7 or Antibes5. On December 11, his funeral ceremony takes place at Antibes Cathedral8. In 1998 and 2005 his studio was dispersed by Me Appay in Cannes, then in 1999 and 2000 by Mes Lombrail and Teucquam in Paris, and in 2006 by France-Enchères in Lyon5.
