"Pair Of Bronze Ewers In The Renaissance Style, 19th Century"
This pair of decorative ewers in silvered and gilded bronze offers an important decoration in the round and in high relief. On these ewers, every space that is not the support is entirely guilloched, thanks to this technique, these objects catch the light in a quite exceptional way. The ovoid body is decorated with masks surrounded by foliage. The upper part of the handle is represented by a rearing lion and the lower part by a winged putto. A griffin stands under the spout. The bases are octagonal in griotte red marble. Although very inspired by the Renaissance style, this pair of ewers is not a copy of a model of that period but a pure invention of their time of a modernized Renaissance style. Very high quality of chasing, silver and gilding of the period, stamped with the monogram B.B., to be compared with the productions of Barbedienne.
