Object description :

"Suite Of 4 Louis XV Gilded Wood Chairs Stamped Of Meunier - Elysée Palace Style"
Beautiful suite of 4 large molded and gilded wood chairs, Parisian work of the Louis XV period, circa 1760. The 4 chairs are stamped by Jean Baptiste Meunier.

Jean-Baptiste Meunier (Born in 1714) Carpenter in Paris. He is the eldest son of Antoine Meunier, he was received master in 1739 and disappeared from the directories in 1785. He produced Louis XV chairs, mainly important suites of armchairs.

Our chairs by their proportions, sizes and finishes are typical of the furnishings of the great Parisian palaces, the great castles of the Ile de France (this kind of chair was found in Dampierre) or even the small apartments of the Palace of Versailles. Designed to be placed in front of gilded wood paneling walls, they are large in size (actually, the size of a large armchair).

For the restoration of these ceremonial seats, we chose to make in the manner of the Louis XV period furniture that adorns the Pompadour salon at the Palais de l'Elysée.

Very good condition, the seats are very robust with old restorations. The gilding is the original one from the 18th century, more faded than a gilding would have been redone in the 19th century. The upholstery has kept its 18th century straps. We made the seats covered with a blue pineapple silk by Tassinari and Chatel, exactly like at the Elysée, and enhanced with antique gold thread braids.

height 91,5cm
width 62cm
seating height 46 cm
