"William Bourguereau (1825-1925) (?) Pontius Pilate Washing His Hands Before Christ"
Representation of the arrest of Christ by Pontius Pilate who, in the face of the disturbances caused by this act, washes his hands in front of an angry crowd. This work is attributed to the famous French painter William-Adolphe Bourguereau, the original of which is located in the Cathedral of La Rochelle, a city where the artist was born and died. Edouard Cabane, himself, made an iteration of this epic work as well as other artists. The signature being difficult to read, it may be a preparatory work of the grand master.
