Jean-Baptiste Oudry was a French painter particularly known for his naturalistic images of animals and his game still lifes representing game.
This splendid canvas, of extraordinary pictorial quality and particularly elaborate, presents a wide variety of wild animals and fruits.
They are all depicted with incredible miniaturist precision and with inimitable skill in rendering bird plumage and hare fur.
Some insects also appear painted with exceptional precision.
All of Jean-Baptiste Oudry's most significant pictorial repertoire is highlighted in this important work which is unequivocally attributable to his hand. The virtuosity of the brush tip is typical of his excellent painting which touched the highest peaks in the representation of the hare still hanging from a lace attached to a hind leg.
The works of Jean-Baptiste Oudry are exhibited in major French and international museums.
In Paris, the National Library of France houses a collection of his engravings.
The painting is in excellent condition with a well done old reintelling.
