The colors, coral on night blue contrasting with white are superb and luminous, and the drawing of a beautiful complexity, a large medallion, placed on a dark field, receives a multitude of animal motifs and stylized plants.
The border is patterned with stylized and elongated oak leaves, dotted with carnation flowers, placed in the angles of the design running over the entire border, symbolizing water or eternity all around.
Four medallions resuming the decoration of the cross with figures of four pairs of "Kotchaks" (rams horns) reminiscent of the cross pattée (decoration of oriental Christian rugs) are placed in the angles.
This rug does not have fringes, the two ends are kilim style, and sewn under to reinforce the ends like many rugs found in Central Asia.
These rugs are knotted in the region of Shiraz located near the ancient Persepolis which gave its name to Persia, nowadays Iran.
Shiraz is in the province of Fars where the Gashghai tribes reside and produce rugs under the two names, Shiraz or Gashghaï.
