"Charles- François Lacroix De Marseille (1700-1782), Attributed, Mediterranean Port Scene I"
18th century marine painting "A Mediterranean port scene with an elegant company and fishermen" (for the pair see next piece). This painting came from the property of a private Iberian noble collection and was purchased by the previous owner at a sale of the Christie´s auction house. This painting have been attributed by experts as original works by the 18th century French marine and landscape painter Charles-François Lacroix of Marseille (1700-1782). Lacroix de Marseille was an 18th century landscape and seascape painter, and is now the well-known artist in Joseph Vernet's circle. The first known painting by Lacroix is dated 1743. Croce. In 1759, he collaborated with Joseph Vernet on an important order from the Duke of Parma for the castle of Colorno. Lacroix worked in Naples for ten years then, in 1776, exhibited in Paris at the Salon du Colisée. Later, in 1780 and 1782, his works were exhibited at the Salon de la Correspondance. He died in Berlin in 1782. Lacroix de Marseille is best known for his sense of color and composition, the attention to every detail and the sophisticated sense of light.
