The representation stands out against a dark background, typical of this particular pictorial genre which uses refined flower garlands for ornamental and illusionist purposes.
These wreaths, like those made by Seghers around the middle of the 17th century, were commissioned from the painter specializing in still lifes, by the painter who completed the painting with a secular or religious portrait. A few two-handed paintings with the same characteristics are known, often the collaboration took place with the workshop of the master of the Steps Carlo Maratta or Maratti (Camerano 1625 - Rome 1713) active in Rome during the whole half of the 17th century. Probably this painting also comes from this region.
The wreath in question is sprinkled with an incredible variety of flowers that have been executed with some attention to naturalistic data and are distinguished by an elegant structure combined with vividness and brilliance of colors.
The original 17th century frame this painting is mounted on is stunning, with ocher colored lacquer marbling and truly fascinating brown colors and pure gold gilding in the internal frame.
The canvas measures are 75cm x 100cm high with frame 100 x 114. We attach a historical certificate of authenticity to the sale.
