Object description :

"Bronze Christ On An Embossed Copper Cross - 16th Century"
Crucifix with its bronze Christ, solid figure once patinated in black. The cross is a fine embossed and hammered copper plate on which is fixed a small plate with the initials INRI.
Christ, nailed to the cross, stands with his head bent to the right, his hips draped in a short perizonium. T
he folds of the drapery as well as some anatomical details (fingers, eyes, lock of hair and beard) are incised in the bronze.
The crown of thorns and the nail on the feet are missing. The copper plate has been hammered onto a once probably wooden core. It has since disappeared, replaced by a lead amalgam with a suspension clip.
The cross was certainly two-sided originally.
