"African Art, Bamana Kore Mask, Dated 1942"
It is a mask of Bamana society, it is commonly worn by an adult Bamana during the initiation of young people into the rite of passage from childhood to maturity. All Bamana males advance through various levels of initiation and secret knowledge and the mask of Kore, belongs to the older ones, helping them in their personal struggle to attain knowledge and wisdom. The wood of this mask has been dated 1942 +/- 6 by the Museum of Arts and Sciences of Milan, an instrument which, with stylistic expertise, can determine its authenticity and great value.
