Beautiful Pair Carved Panels With Stories Of Saint Augustine. XVI Century Tuscany Region flag

Object description :

"Beautiful Pair Carved Panels With Stories Of Saint Augustine. XVI Century Tuscany Region"
This important pair of panels were carved from walnut wood by a skilled sculptor from Tuscan region in the 16th century. (110 cm x 61 cm)

Since scenes from the stories of Saint Augustine are depicted, they were probably designed to constitute the liturgical furniture of rooms related to the Augustinian order. In fact, the proposed scenes are those of the meeting along a coast between the saint of Hippopotamus and the child eager to harvest the sea with a spoon. The other scene represents the saint welcoming 3 poor beggars. The frames are finely carved in several orders of sculpture.

The measures per panel are 110 x 61

We attach a certificate of authenticity to the sale.
