"Silver Head From Maison Wolfers (isidor De Rudder)?"
Beautiful little satyr head in solid silver. Normally this must be a piece designed by Isidor De Rudde he worked with the Wolfers brothers. It bears the mark of the boar and the W for Wolfers. The Wolfers company uses this mark in 1852 on the silver coin. For Wolfers Frères, 1900 was a prosperous year in many ways. Not only, the firm, founded in Brussels in 1850 by Louis Wolfers (1820-1892), celebrated its 50th anniversary, but the future looked very promising since, during the last decade of the 19th century, the ‟Goldsmith's trade had become one of the first houses in the world. Even if the popularity of the Louis Wolfers firm was in the 1870s, it was mainly the three sons, Philippe (1858-1929), Marc [dit Max] (1859-1953) and Robert (1867-1959), helped by their cousin and brother-in-law Albert (1862-1934) 2, who were responsible for the growing success based on thoughtful organization and perfect collaboration, brilliantly described by Victor Horta: “[...]; they complement each other so completely that one could designate them as three heads under one cap. When I say “head”, it is “brain” which is correct, because they are remarkably intelligent and help each other while having their character.
