"Large Trumeau, Fireplace Mirror, "
Magnificent large trumeau / fireplace mirror representing three characters in a curious and heartbreaking farewell scene. The old man seems to want to indicate to the young man that he must hurry to leave the place while the young woman holds back her beloved. The scene takes place on the edge of a cliff, in the middle of a storm where the elements are unleashed and in a twilight atmosphere. The theme of this painting is really rare and very different from the usual gallant scenes that are usually found on this type of object. Our trumeau is in good house condition. The paint could possibly be cleaned (some traces) but it is in good condition. The mirror has some tiny, barely visible oxidations. Only the gilded wood frame has some small gaps and wear of the gilding (in particular at the bottom left, see photos for details). Manufacture of the early 19th century, Romantic school. Total dimensions: 167.5cm x 74cm Canvas dimensions only, at sight: 104.5cm x 65cm Mirror dimensions only: 66cm x 50.5cm
