Color and black and white illustrations by Jacques Touchet. Dickens was born in Porthsmouth and died in Kent. He is the most popular English writer of the 19th century. Her family's poverty forced her to start working at the age of 12. His father is put in prison for debt. He re-attended a private school for three years (the family situation improved). He began to write in 1833, stories and serials for newspapers. This is how most of his works are born.
