"Surroundings Of Nogent-sur-seine, Eugène Galien-laloue (1854 - 1941)"
This beautiful painting represents the Seine near Nogent-sur-Seine. It is signed J. Liévin, one of the pseudonyms of the French painter Eugène Galien-Laloue and bears the inscription "Environs Nogent sur Seine". Born in December 1854 in Paris, Eugène Galien-Laloue was a painter of genre scenes, military subjects and animated landscapes. It is conceivable that Galien-Laloue used the pseudonym J. Liévin for his oil paintings. Gifted with a great facility, he had a very abundant production, especially in gouache and in small format works. Famous for his urban landscapes, he almost exclusively depicted the most picturesque parts of Paris, notably the Grands-Boulevards. Recruited by the French Railway Company from 1874 onwards to draw the route of the rails from Paris to the capital, he took the opportunity to paint the village landscapes of the Ile-de-France countryside. He died on 18 April 1941 in Chérence (Val d'Oise).
