"Marie-antoinette Queen Of France-french School Of The Eighteenth Century"
18th century period, dated 1795 Oil on canvas Presented in a carved and gilded wooden frame, Louis XVI period, decorated with water leaves and pearls. Total dimensions 87 x 70 cm. The canvas 74 x 58 cm Our painting, painted in 1795, resumes in a reduced and more centered format, the portrait by Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun (1755-1842) representing Marie-Antoinette seated, holding a book in a blue coat and white dress, currently at the New Orleans Museum of Art, USA. An identical version to that of the American museum is at the Palace of Versailles, she wears a pearl necklace. 1795 corresponds to the arrival of Vigée Le Brun in Saint Petersburg where she stays for several years, favored by orders from high Russian society and support from Gabriel-François Doyen, close to the Empress and her son. We know that a certain number of replicas, in bust only, of this portrait of Marie-Antoinette in the book were made there. ** Note an inscription lower right: AFM (Vigée Le Brun) 1795 (see attached detail photo) Good condition.
