Orchies Ceramics developed from 1705 in the north of France, first in Saint Amand-les-Eaux near Valenciennes, where the first tin-bearing earthenware factory was established. Many factories were established over the centuries in the region, notably in Hamage and Orchies. From the 1920s, the "Faiences et Porcelaines de Saint-Amand-Orchies-Hamage" then the "Faiences du Moulin des Loups" employed up to 700 people in 5 factories which ceased their activity in 1954.
