"Louis XIV Table In Mahogany And Gaïac, Rochelais Work Late 17th-early 18th Century"
Elegant center table in solid precious wood resting on four guaiac baluster legs connected by an H-shaped spacer, it opens to a mahogany drawer decorated with a fine molding and sliding directly under the top, the latter also in solid mahogany is quite overflowing and mounted on false tenons pegged into the side rails. The belt is highlighted with a pretty mahogany molding in the lower part and its crosspieces are in blond mahogany. The bottoms and sides of the dovetailed drawer are in oak, the lock and the bronze keyhole are original. Rochelais work from the Louis XIV period in a very good state of preservation. There is a table at the New World Museum in La Rochelle with a similar base with an H-shaped spacer and a fairly overflowing top as well.
