"Butsudan, Buddhist Altar, Japan Early XIXth"
Rare and superb domestic altar, this Butsudan is a Japanese work from the beginning of the 19th century. This essential object of Buddhism is rich in sculptures, gilding and cabinetwork. The wooden 'chest' is lacquered and decorated with finely chiselled gilt bronze fittings. It contains two representations of Amitabha Buddha on a sculpted group. Very beautiful Asian antique of great delicacy of execution.
