"Carlo Bugatti Wall Shelf."
Carlo BUGATTI (1856-1940) Wall shelf - Circa 1900 Exceptional wall shelf in imitation of Moorish architecture. In varnished stained wood, embossed copper, pewter inlays, trimmings, bone, mirror and partially covered with parchment. This piece of furniture combines several “mirror and console” functions. The mirror occupies the central ogival shape, a lower shelf serves as a console. Bugatti's furniture of Moorish inspiration (before 1900) is indicative of his early studies as an architect. Many pieces borrow elements from the monumental repertoire such as columns or minarets. The forms are powerful and the abundance of materials lightens the structure because all contribute to a delicate ornamentation made of inlays or painted motifs.
