"Port Nantais Buffet, In Mahogany From Cuba - 1770"
Regional Port sideboard, in Cuban Mahogany, with a finely grooved wooden top. This tray with rounded front corners is made of two boards. This piece of furniture opens with two independent doors, with recessed fronts and molded frames. They are separated by a fixed central pilaster, with vertical grooves. Each of these leaves is held by bronze plugs, has a keyhole of the same alloy and a lock in working order. The cabinet is supplied with its two keys. Everything is original. These two doors reveal the same storage space, divided by the presence of a 60 cm deep shelf placed on fixed cleats. The interior of this sideboard also offers two drawers assembled with wide dovetails in the upper part. The sides of this piece of furniture are composed of scalloped Cuban mahogany pieces, partially covering recessed panels. The visible low crosspieces are also cut on rounded lines. The set rests at the front on two large snail feet, at the back on two almost straight feet. The back and interior of the cabinet are in Oak. This Nantais Buffet has amply proven its Robustness and Quality, and it can boast of being in perfect condition despite its 250 years. It combines, like many Port furniture of its time, the particularities of local manufacture and the Parisian influences specific to the 18th century. Probably originally designed for a Bourgeois family or a rich shipowner, this Regional Buffet is now waiting for a new home in which it can bring Cachet and Character.
