"Rare Large Dish In Bronze Palissy Type Nineteenth. "
Large decorative bronze Palissy dish. Rare work published in bronze from the 19th century (much more common in ceramics). Decorated with so-called "rustic figurines" in the style of Bernard Palissy, with a snake or grass snake in the center, framed by two frogs and two lobsters, also decorated with leaves and two shells. In very good shape. Length 41.5 cm, width 31.5 cm, weight 4.640 kg. His brilliant and tumultuous life is at the origin of a true "palissean myth". The 19th century gave Palissy an imposing dimension and even initiated the birth of a real cult. His art experienced a prodigious resurgence of interest through his imitators such as Charles Avisseau and Auguste Chauvigné in Tours, Georges Pull in Paris, Alfred Renoleau in Angoulême, and through the interest of major European collectors.
