Object description :

"Ceramics Atelier Callis. (capron.picault.derval)"
Ceramic signed CALLIS (1946-1948) in pearly white and green. Atelier CALLIS is made up of a trio of ceramists in Vallauris: Roger Capron, Robert Picault, Jean Derval. This village of potters attracted in March 1946 two young ceramists and comrades from the School of Applied Arts Paris, Roger Capron (1922-2006) and Robert Picault (1919-2000), who founded the Callis workshop. The team grew with the arrival of Jean Derval (1925-2010) in August 1947. The production consists of unique pieces (vases, cups, boxes, tobacco jars, merry-go-rounds, etc.) with thick glazes and with generous shapes decorated with elements in relief with arabesques, hearts, rooster birds. From 1946, the ceramics were presented at the Nérolium exhibitions in Vallauris. The trio worked until May 1948, each deciding to follow their own voice: Robert Picault opened a new workshop on the Chemin du Fournas. Roger Capron keeps the workshop which takes the name of 'Roger Capron' in which Jean Derval will work until October 1949, before entering Madoura
