Elegant rectangular piece of furniture at support height in Boulle marquetry of red tortoiseshell and re-engraved brass with delicate decoration in the style of Jean Bérain of palmettes, fleurons, foliage, interlacing foliage of acanthus centered with a flourishing Medici Vase, under a canopy and draperies theatrically festooned with campane lambrequins, a wreath of flowers; frames in ebonized wood veneer intensify these precious inlaid compositions through chromatic play. In harmony, an exquisite ornamentation of finely chiseled gilded bronzes with gadroon motifs, alternating cabochons of flowers, foliage, bases, palms and acanthus rosettes nimbus in frieze the moldings punctuating the belt, the band and the base of the piece of furniture, dresses up rush and framing rods, punctuates its canted uprights. Inspired by Rocaille, an openwork shell with acanthus or even flamed crossettes enhances the keyholes, the cul-de-lampe, the spandrel shape on the side panels of this piece of furniture with a Louis-Quartoz silhouette. This sweet Regency note blossoms in the radiant figures sheathed in Putti haloing the upper part of the uprights of the furniture: these smiling toddlers with curly heads dotted with primrose flowers, with chubby shapes emerging from a shell covered with an undulating flower garland; arranged as a console, it is wrapped in a large acanthus leaf with foliage forming a fall. Arranged as sconces, ribboned mascarons with palmettes bearing the effigy of Apollo complete the adornment of gilded bronzes of the piece of furniture. It opens with two leaves onto an interior in mahogany wood veneer fitted with two rack-mounted shelves. Resting on a supplely scalloped base, it is topped with a thick Belgian black marble top which follows the shape of the frame, accentuating its harmoniously architectural appearance. Served by a high quality of execution, this luxurious piece of furniture endowed with both formal and ornamental refinement is fully in line with the production of Parisian art cabinetmaking of the second half of the 19th century represented among others by Mombro, Vervelle elder, Prétot, ...-distinguished performers in their Boulle style movable pieces highly prized by the high society of the time.
