Born March 5, 1896 in Nantes, the twins Jan and Joël Martel are sculptors and decorators inspired by Art Deco or Cubism. They carried out interior fittings in villas in the 1920s, when they distinguished themselves in the Parisian avant-garde. They shared the same studio and their work, to the point of signing their compositions only by "J. Martel". The Martel brothers took part in Paris exhibitions at the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon d'Automne, the Salon des Tuileries and the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition.
The Martel twins died in 1966 six months apart, one from Charcot's disease, the other from a car accident.
