Virgin Of Birth In Polychrome Earthenware - Eighteenth flag

Object description :

"Virgin Of Birth In Polychrome Earthenware - Eighteenth"
Polychrome earthenware statuette representing the Blessed Virgin with her forehead surrounded by a crown, carrying the Child Jesus on her left arm. A popular object of Religious Art in the 18th and 19th centuries, the "midwife Virgins" had an important role with parturients, when the "labor" of childbirth began: the crown then made it possible to accommodate a candle, the interior could also contain holy water. This Statue presents an Earthenware with shimmering colors. The sky blue represents the drapery enveloping the two figures, while the yellow of the Madonna's habit is punctuated with Ermine motifs, suggesting the Breton origin of this Artifact. Testimony to the importance of the Catholic Religion in the daily life of our ancestors, this Virgin of childbirth steeped in history will make a unique gift for a future mother, or will delight any lover of sacred art.
